Design Challenge
This Design Challenge is an actual case needing to be solved. Students will be assessed on every aspect of the Design Cycle to problem-solve and come up with a final solution. Students will be assessed on the “Why’s” which is the 3 areas of the Design rubric.
Prompt: Leo is a homeowner in a fairly safe neighborhood. But, in the last 3 years, he as noticed that packages delivered to his home have gone missing. Not all packages have been stolen but a third of all packages have been stolen. He is looking for the right solution so that all packages are received by him. He does order through Amazon Prime at least once a month. Amazon, UPS and Fedex have been reluctant to reimburse him for missing packages. There has been one instance when Amazon has reimbursed him. In the last year, he has lost approximately $120 in purchased items. He refuses to stop using Amazon simply because of the convenience of shopping online.
Parameters: There is a stepped front porch. To the left of the front door is a mailbox. Immediately to the left of the porch on the south side of the house is a wrought iron locked gate about 3 feet tall. The front yard is open, meaning no fence. The front door is approximately 30 feet from the sidewalk. There are other parameters in which you will need to consider. Please take into consideration costs.
Final Solution: The best solution will be used by the homeowner. Do your best to come up with an actual solution.
